Sparerib graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA in Fashion Accessory Design. Through her experience of working for a sustainable fashion company and a life long obsession with second hand clothing, Spare Rib became interested in ethical textiles and design. Materials used for her collections are sourced from charity shops, markets and online second hand retailers; using old bed sheets and fabrics that can be dyed and manipulated.
Her inspiration comes from everyday interaction with organic patterns, textures and colours. Paying attention to shapes in landscapes and found materials, combining everyday materials found on earth contrasts with an outer-space and futuristic fascination. This is a continuous theme in her work, playing with distorted patterns and textures that allow for unpredictability.
